01JAN25 Update Sorry I am going to put updates at the top. I had been just continuing the file from the bottom but I'm tired of scrolling down. New Year's resolution is to make the layout of my entire gopherhole much more coherent. This will probably mean placing entries into TXT files. I am a bit divided on that idea because of the possibility things will be missed by anyone who really wants to read what I write. I am perpetually in a state of worrying how this all looks to other people while knowing that I am actually doing this for me. I think this is one of the most endearing aspects of Gopher. It is one of the least performative and most genuine forms of broadcasting left on the internet. When I make a post here it's solitary and distrationless, yet I'm sending it out to the world. I recently stopped using Android as my daily mobile and feel a bit lost. The newer versions are just too crowded and try to hard to be everything at once. It also was just getting to the point that I was too distracted to actually do anything worthwhile of the time. I switched to an old iPhone SE that I had rebuilt. It physically is practically brand new. The UI is inflexible, boring the apps I installed all feel old but surprisingly just work. My XMPP performance for calling and video is drastically more stable. I hate to admit that this feels like a device I can probably get by with for alot longer than my monster Motorola flagship, even though it itself is 6 years old. The size difference of the SE vs the 6 inch block I had been carrying is of course very noticeable. I also repurposed a wallet case that I had for another phone. Tomorrow I intend on crafting a new camera hole so I can make use of the camera properly. It's lighter, smaller and has less features. It's exactly what I wanted. I will enjoy using it until Apple (probably soon) EOLs it before its time.
